Day 1 - UK - Memphis
Journey from the UK to Memphis (Tennessee) and get ready to explore this interesting city. Famous for its musical history, the city is home to Beale Street, filled with live music venues, the Rock 'n' Soul Museum and Sun Studio where many famous names including Elvis recorded. Not to be missed is a visit to Elvis' Graceland Mansion (included in your holiday) and a dinner of Memphis barbecue.
Day 3 - Memphis - Tupelo (110 miles)
Travel from Memphis to Tupelo, the original home of Elvis Presley; here visit his two bedroom house where he spent his childhood - a complete contrast to the mansion of Graceland. The Tupelo Automobile Museum has a wealth of automotive history to discover.
Day 4 - Tupelo - Jackson (195 miles)
Journey along the historic Natchez Trace Parkway – one of the most scenic, beautifully preserved and historic routes in all the country - to Jackson, the capital of Mississippi, which was used in the filming of 'The Help.’ Explore the art district of the city, Fondren, a hub of artistic expression through music and visual arts. Day 5 - Jackson - Gulf Coast (150 miles)
Travel from Jackson to the Gulf Coast to spend time relaxing on the state's 26 miles of beaches and stay in the seaside towns. The most luxurious hotel is the Beau Rivage, home to it's own casino - there might even be a band playing during your stay so take a look at the line-up before you go.
Day 6 - Gulf Coast
If beach life is your cup of tea, take the opportunity to mark your spot on the beach and relax all day. For something more adventurous, board the ferry to Ship Island to go fishing and swimming on these two barrier islands and explore Fort Massachusetts, a historical fort and now tourist attraction. Along the Gulf Coast, there a number of shopping centres and outlet malls as well as great seafood restaurants and golf courses.
Day 7 - Gulf Coast - New Orleans (100 miles)
After a scenic drive, arrive in New Orleans, 'The Big Easy', for a stay in the vibrant and lively city. Ride the street cars, eat a Po-Boy (traditional sandwich), spend the evening in Bourbon Street and soak up the history and architecture of the French Quarter. Included in your holiday is a New Orleans Original Cocktail Walking Tour - after all, the first cocktail, the sazerac did originate in this fantastic city!
Day 8 - New Orleans
Explore the attractions of New Orleans further perhaps visiting Mardi Gras World, where the impressive floats for this famous event are built. New Orleans' great nightlife, talented blues and jazz musicians, spicy Cajun food and fun French Quarter make for a fantastic stay in the city. Don’t forget to visit Cafe du Monde for its famous beignets!
Day 9 - New Orleans - Natchez (175 miles)
En route to Natchez, stop in Louisiana's Plantation Country and Baton Rouge. Here you might wish to enjoy lunch at one of the traditional plantation homes such as Houmas House, and take a guided tour of one of these historical beauties before arriving in Natchez (Mississippi). Natchez is a charming place to wander around and soak up the history as it is the oldest permanent settlement on the Mississippi River. Day 10 - Natchez - Vicksburg (75 miles)
Travel onto Vicksburg to soak up the history of the Civil War and the Battle of Vicksburg at the Vicksburg National Military Park. While here, make a visit to the Old Courthouse Museum housing several interesting artefacts such as a tie which President of the Confederate Jefferson Davis.
Day 11 - Vicksburg - Greenwood (100 miles)
Relax and soak up the atmosphere in Greenwood. Eat lunch at the Crystal Grill, a local hotspot, and walk around the town to the grave of Robert Johnson to pay homage to the blues musician or learn to cook delicious food at the Viking Cooking School.
Day 12 - Greenwood
Spend the day visiting Clarksdale, only an hour away and en route to Clarksdale, visit the B.B. King Museum in Indianola. In Clarksdale, visit the Delta Blues focusing on the musical legacy that blues-men have left on the world. Soak up the music even further with a visit to the Grand Zero Blues Club owned by the beloved actor, Morgan Freeman.
Day 13 - Greenwood - Memphis (128 miles)
Travel back to Memphis for your flight home to the UK or continue your holiday in the Deep South.
