Mayan Dude Ranch is located in the beautiful hill country of Texas, 47 miles north west of San Antonio in Bandera. This ranch features almost 350 acres of picturesque trails which horse shoe through the lowlands of the Medina River. This large ranch is ideally suited for families, those looking for a fun atmosphere and novice riders. It has been operated by the Hicks family for 50 years who welcome you with traditional Texan hospitality. The ranch has produced seven world champion rodeo cowboys.
A typical day involves waking up with a morning juice or coffee followed by a hayride down to a cowboy breakfast of homecooked treats. Back at the corral, enjoy a trail ride and then lunch is served poolside or in the dining room. After lunch, there is horseback riding, swimming or sun bathing to enjoy. Dinners feature an array of barbequed brisket, ribs, steak and salads and on occasion take place in the dining room. There is after dinner entertainment in the summertime in the form of hayrides, Western bingo, marshmallow roasts, trick roping, Texan dance lessons and fireworks displays.
Mayan Dude Ranch is open year round and there is a two night minimum stay; in the summer there are no Monday or Saturday arrivals or departures. Riding takes place on every day except Sundays; a brunch and dinner are served on Sundays.
Two trail rides are offered daily (excludes Sundays), one in the morning and one in the afternoon, into the hills or down to the Medina river. Rides take place in single file at walking place with a cowboy guide and last around 50 minutes. If you are looking for advanced riding then this ranch is not recommended. Please note there is a weight limit of 240 lbs.
The ranch is home to mares and well trained ponies.
In the summer months, most guests tend to stay a week, outside of the summer, there are seasonal activities offered including bonfires, marshmallow roasting and camp fires. The Cowboy Dome Pavilion, alongside the swimming pool, is a place where you can have a drink and relax with family and friends listening to Country Western music. There's not only horseback riding to enjoy at the Mayan Dude Ranch, you can also swim in the pool, tube down the Medina River, fish, enjoy the sun, play tennis, volleyball, ping-pong and basketball.
