Focus Ranch is a real working cattle ranch set in territory once familiar to Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid.
Located at the upper end of Little Snake River Valley in the Sierra Madres Mountains, this is now home to a 1300 plus herd of yearling cattle during the summer months. Owned by a warm and welcoming couple, the Focus Ranch is perfect for all levels of riders, couples and families.
The original 1890's lodge has been replaced by a bright and airy log lodge with a stone fireplace, hardwood floors and pine walls. The upstairs of the lodge features three spacious and comfortable rooms with en suite bathrooms. Focus Ranch also features three en suite cabins that are located close to the main lodge plus two self contained units adjacent to the lodge.
Meals at Focus Ranch are hearty home cooked and wholesome with freshly baked breads and pastries, steak fry's across the river on Saturday nights and fresh trout if someone has been lucky enough to catch some that day. Focus Ranch does not have a licence to sell alcohol however you are welcome to take your own along.
There are 3 rooms located here with views of the mountains and Snake River. The bed sizes vary in the rooms from queen or twins. All rooms have en suite bathrooms.
There are two newly made Ranch Suites situated next to the lodge with their own bedrooms, living room, kitchen and bathrooms.
The ranch is open from 28 May until 30 September 2018 and offers weekly 6 night packages with arrivals on Sundays . Please note there is no riding on day of arrival or departure, so there are 5 days of full activities. There is no riding on a Sunday.
The riding programme focuses on cross-country rather than head-to-tail or trail riding, accommodating all levels by adjusting the speed and length of the rides, with rides up to 6 - 8 hours per day. All levels of rider can participate in cattle drives, with wranglers providing full instruction. Normally the cattle are put to pastures around the 25th of May and the heard are moved to a new pasture normally every three days. If you are interested in riding with the cattle the recommend time to visit is between late May and early August.
For a more relaxed pace of life, Focus Ranch offers superb fishing opportunities. The Little Snake River begins at the confluence of three high mountain streams and are a very popular day trip. Excellent Trout fishing is found at Little Snake River which runs through the ranch and there are two large lakes within 25 miles. Hiking trails can be found both on the ranch and in the national forests of Medicine Bowl and Routt Mountains surround the valley and views are spectacular from the summit of Sheep Mountain. For those seeking more of an adrenalin rush, mountain bikers can make use of the existing trails.
Children are welcomed at the ranch. Children are assessed according to their riding ability rather than their age. They will need to be able to ride outside of the corral and be in control of their horse. Children generally ride separately to the adults, but if their skill is appropriate, they can go on the more advanced rides. The youngest children the ranch normally accepts for riding are 5 years old. When not riding, children can enjoy activities including art work, fishing, building dams in the ditch, horseshoe games, nature walks, swimming and nature walks.
