Tanque Verde Ranch is one of America’s old-time cattle and guest ranches that has evolved into one of the finest resorts in the southwest. Located on 640 acres in the lush foothills of the Rincon Mountains, this ranch offers miles of scenic riding and hiking trails to explore the rugged Sonoran Desert. Welcoming couples and families in particular, Tanque Verde Ranch is an extremely popular ranch for all levels of riders. Your stay includes everything from riding to beginner and advanced lessons, team penning, guided hiking, biking and walking, art classes and water aerobics.
Gourmet meals are served in the dining room and there are sometimes special events such as the Mexican Fiesta Night and line dancing. Breakfasts are a real treat with fresh cinnamon rolls and cinnamon toast served! From October - May on Friday evenings, a special picnic ride can be enjoyed, this is a desert ride followed by a dinner of hot dogs and burgers. Twice weekly home ranch experiences are a favourite taking place at Cottonwood Grove. Meanwhile, the Doghouse Saloon is the place to sip cocktails and craft beers after dinner. Please note there is a weight limit of 250-270 llbs per person for riding.
The Salas are comfortable rooms with a king size, queen size or two queen size beds. Their locations differ, some are situated on the walkway of the Ranch and others come with views of the desert or courtyard.
The Casitas have an additional sitting area, fireplace and private patio where you can rest and relax.
These suites offer the most space and have great views of the Sonoran desert. They are suitable for two to six people. The rooms are furnished with a table and chairs, several closets, a mini fridge, full baths (some with Jacuzzi tubs) and a private patio.
The ranch is open year round with stays beginning on any day and lasting for however long you wish.
Riding is offered every day and there an array of rides for all levels including trail walk rides and loping for advanced riders. Full-day rides are offered once a week and a breakfast ride out into the desert followed by a cowboy breakfast is offered at least twice a week. Private rides, sunset rides, team penning are other activities available. Lessons include basic and intermediate horsemanship as well as lope check, the highest level of horsemanship offered here.
Tanque Verde Ranch has 180 horses to ride over 60 thousand acres of pristine natural beauty.
The ranch has ample on offer for a non-rider or rider looking to enjoy other activities. Facilities include five tennis courts, indoor and outdoor pools, a sauna, jacuzzi, exercise room, basketball, volleyball and a supervised fishing program. For those looking for other outdoor activities, hikes and guided hikes can be enjoyed where you can discover the beautiful scenery of the Sonoran desert. Meanwhile, La Sonora Spa is the perfect place to relax and enjoy pampering treatments after a day on the saddle.
Children are extremely welcomed and the ranch is family focused. Children can attend the daily kid's club divided into age categories; Buckaroo's for ages 4-6, Wrangler's for ages 7-9 and Outlaws for ages 10-12 where they will enjoy activities including basis horse activities. Buckaroo's will enjoy a program of riding/being led, playing in the playground, arts and crafts and movies in the evening. Wrangler's will enjoy basic/trail rides, intermediate riding lessons and team penning. Outlaws have a more riding focused program. A program for under 4s is available upon request.
Go hiking in the Sonoran Desert, the Sonora Desert Museum is a great place to learn about the plants and animals that live here. Golf enthusiasts will love the desert golf course situated moments from the ranch (special rates are available at the ranch). Other activities include hot air ballooning in Tucson, SkyNights at Mt Lemmon SkyCenter, visits to Tombstone, the home of many Western Legends, a truly western town, even today.
