This flexible fly-drive itinerary takes you to some of the most pristine lake and mountain scenery Western Canada has to offer. Taking you a little more off the beaten track with most lodge accommodation situated on the shores of spectacular lakes.
Start with a few days sightseeing in Vancouver before beginning your road trip along some of Canada's most scenic drives. Spend time relaxing lakeside or enjoy all the activities that are available in the wilderness, including hiking, boating, fishing, float-plane trips and horseback riding. This itinerary takes you from Vancouver along the Sea-to-Sky Highway, through Whistler and on to Tyaughton Lake. Travel on to the tranquil Lac Le Jeune and Jasper National Park. Visit Moraine Lake and enjoy two nights at the beautiful Emerald Lake Lodge before your last stop in Banff.
Day 1 - Travel to Vancouver
Today you begin your Canadian adventure, take a flight from the UK to Vancouver, on arrival transfer to your hotel and the rest of the day and evening is at your leisure.
One of the most exhilarating ways of experiencing Vancouver is from the air by seaplane. We offer several scenic flights from 20-minute city panorama flights to day trips to Victoria on Vancouver Island, and fly 'n' dine flights to Bowen Island. Other activities on offer in Vancouver include cycling around the 1000-acre Stanley Park or walking over the famous Capilano Suspension Bridge.
This morning collect your hire car from the downtown office and head out of Vancouver along the scenic Sea-to Sky Highway to Whistler. Stop off at the cascading Shannon Falls or take a ride on the Sea-to-Sky Gondola. Continue along the Duffey Lake Road where you will be rewarded with spectacular views of Joffre Glacier. Your scenic drives continues through Whistler to Fraser River Gorge at Lillooet and through the Southern Chilcotin Mountains to Tyax Wilderness Resort and Spa.
Day 4 - Tyax Mountain Lake Resort, Gold Bridge
Set on the shores of the spectacular Tyaughton Lake, your stay here can be one of pure relaxation and a total adventure. Tyax Resort offers a multitude of activities including horseback riding, gold panning lessons, mountain biking, ATV safaris and floatplane flights over the Chilcotin Wilderness.
Day 5 - Gold Bridge - Lac Le Juene (203 miles)
Travel through the land of the Gold Rush Trail and the Old Caribou Wagon Road. Located in a stunning setting, Lac Le Juene Resort is where you will spend this evening. Lac Le Juene Provincial Park offers a wide range of activities from swimming, fishing, hiking, biking and boating.
Day 6 - Lac Le Juene - Jasper (297 miles)
Drive through rolling plateaus along the Thompson River to the snowy peaks of Monashee Mountains. Here you can see Pyramid Falls and the Albreda Icefields. Pass the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies, Mount Robson stands at 3954 metres. On arrival at Jasper check in to the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for 2 nights. This resort is set deep in the Canadian Rockies in a tranquil setting of natural beauty.
Day 7 - Jasper
Today is a day at your leisure, choose to relax and enjoy the facilities of Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge or visit the charming mountain village of Jasper itself. You can take n optional boat cruise on Maligne Lake, a tram up Whistlers Mountain or soak in the pools at Miette Hot Springs.
Drive along the spine of the Canadian Rockies on the scenic Icefields Parkway with over 100 glaciers, pristine lakes and jagged mountain peaks. Along the way you have the opportunity to stop and explore the Columbia Icefield on a tour on Ice Explorer where you ride out on to the glacier itself. Other recommended stops include Peyto Lake, Bow Lake and Glacier and Sarbach Glacier.Tonight you will stay at Moraine Lake Lodge situated on the shores of the turquoise Moraine Lake.
Day 9 - Moraine Lake - Emerald Lake (23 miles)
A short but spectacular drive takes you through the Yoho National Park to Emerald Lake where you stay at the beautiful Emerald Lake Lodge for the next two nights. Yoho National Park is fill with gem-coloured glacial lakes and dense forests of western red cedar and western hemlock. The area was discovered when the historic railroad was being built through the mountains. The park also includes a natural rock bridge over the Kicking Horse River and some of Canada's highest waterfalls.
A day at leisure at Emerald Lake Lodge, choose to sit on the terrace and take in the awe-inspiring views, take a bracing dip in the lake itself (not recommended for the faint hearted) or a leisurely hike around the circumference of Emerald Lake.
Follow the Bow Valley Parkway along the Bow River and include a stop at Johnston Canyon where you can take a walk along paved footpath to either the upper or lower waterfalls. In the afternoon arrive at Banff where you have the afternoon free to explore downtown.
There is a full day to explore Banff and the surrounding area. Take in the panoramic views of Bow Valley from the Banff Gondola (included), and then a dip in the hot mineral pools at the Upper Hot Springs. In the early evening enjoy an optional wildlife tour in to the wilderness.
