A comprehensive introduction to the many varied attractions and World Heritage Sites of Sri Lanka. This tour is by private vehicle with your own professional driver-guide who will take you to the heart of the island, its ancient cities, central highland and tea plantations. You will gain an insight into the history and culture or Sri Lanka while enjoying the amazing scenery of this beautiful island.

Itinerary


Day 1 - Arrival into Colombo - Habarana
On arrival you will be met by a Western and Oriental representative and your driver-guide. You will then transfer to Habarana for three nights’ stay. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of your hotel. Habarana is located in the centre of Sri Lankas cultural triangle making it the perfect base from which to explore the spectacular historical sites including Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Kandy.
VIEW ACCOMMODATION
Day 2 - Habarana - Polonnaruwa - Optional Minneriya Safari
After breakfast you will visit Polonnaruwa. It is famed for its ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath and the statue of King Parakramabahu. The rest of today will be yours to relax as you choose. There will be an option to take a jeep safari of the Minneriya National Park for a supplement, paid locally. Here you can enjoy safari drives and observe diverse wildlife including elephants, deer, a wide variety of birds and if you are lucky even Leopards.

Day 3 - Sigirya
After breakfast drive to Sigiriya and climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress. The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. A moat, rampart, and extensive gardens including the renowned water gardens ring the base of the rock. Visit the 'Heavenly Maidens' of Sigiriya. These frescoes are painted in earth pigments on plaster. The remainder of the day will be at leisure. An Elephant back safari in Habarana could be booked locally.

Day 4 - Habarana - Dambulla - Spice Gardens - Kandy
After breakfast you will visit the Dambulla rock temple, five caves with over 2000 sq. metres of painted walls and ceilings. Continue later to Kandy, en route visit one of the spice gardens in Matale to discover the island’s spices and learn about use during a Cookery demonstration. In Kandy enjoy a city tour where you will learn about their history. After checking in your driver will collect you for an evening visit the Temple of the Tooth Relic and attend a cultural Sri Lankan dance show.

Day 5 - Royal Botanical Gardens
This morning you will visit the Royal Botanical Gardens, it is the largest of Sri Lanka’s three main botanical gardens. Sights include a palm avenue planted by the British in 1905, the enormous spreading Java fig which sprawls across the lawn, grown from a sapling brought from the East Indies. The gardens also have stands of towering bamboos and a fine collection of orchids. In the centre of the gardens is an artificial lake in the shape of the island of Sri Lanka.

Day 6 - Kandy - Nuwara Eliya, Tea Country in the Central Highlands
After a drive to Kandapola via Nuwara Eliya, the hill-resort in the heart of Sri Lanka’s tea country with refreshing climate and stunning scenery. Visit a tea plantation and a tea factory included en route, to observe the processes of manufacturing tea. Taste a cup of pure Ceylon tea to check the quality! Near is Sri Lanka s highest mountain, Pidurutalagala where you may see some of the dramatic waterfalls in this region. The rest of today will be at leisure for you to enjoy the scenery.

Day 7 - Return home or extend your tour on the Beach
Today your tour ends, you will be transferred to Colombo Airport for your onward flight or alternatively to one of Sri Lanka's beach destinations for a relaxing beach extension.
