Sri-Lanka Overview

Sri Lanka holidays offer huge variety; pristine beaches, hilltop plantations, ancient cities, cave temples and an extraordinary abundance of wildlife. Sun seekers will love Sri Lanka for the incredible beaches where you can laze around and soak up some sun on golden sands. For those seeking a little more adventure, there are numerous Sri Lanka tours, activities and sights to keep you occupied.

The heart of the cultural triangle offers ancient cities, reclining Buddhas and the magnificent rock fortress of Sigiriya which has been declared a world heritage site. Explore the fascinating ruins in Anuradhapura, where you’ll find magnificent temples, dagobas and examples of ancient architecture.

The Dutch Fortress of Galle is a classic example of the European fortified city in southern Asia. Wander the fort’s streets and browse charming shops and cafés.

Kandy, in the beautiful tea country, was once a stronghold of the Sinhalese kings. The Temple of Tooth – one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world – is found here, and each August the city plays host to the biggest festival in Sri Lanka, the Esala Perahara.

The colonial tea estates in the tea country offer a glimpse of the historical era and take you back in time, offering amazing scenery along the way. Visit Nuwara Eliya for breath-taking views of rolling green hills and learn about the tea-growing process. The tiny hill resort of Hatton makes an excellent base for exploring the surrounding country.

For those looking for culture and the perfect beach break, the combination of Sri Lanka and the Maldives is perfect. This trip is popular with honeymooners, thanks to the romantic blend of white sand beaches, swaying palm trees and warm sunshine. Other Sri Lanka multi-centre holiday combinations are also possible – such as tours including India, Dubai & Oman.
