This historic hotel is ideal for those looking for a luxury base to explore the Galle area. Amangalla is housed in colonial buildings formerly known as the New Oriental hotel, actually set within the ramparts of the 17th Century Galle Fort (a UNESCO World Heritage Site).
Each of the 28 rooms and suites are individually decorated in a colonial style with antique furniture, king size four-poster bed, polished wood floors and a lovely bathroom with free-standing bath.
Dining at Amangalla takes place in the relaxed Great Hall with its high ceilings and chandeliers, or the more intimate and colonial styled Dining Room. Complimentary afternoon tea – homemade scones with jam and Ceylon Tea –is an enjoyable daily treat! The staff at Amangalla will happily recommend other nearby places to dine.
The Baths – Amangalla’s extensive spa - are extremely calming and the perfect place for restoring the body and soothing the mind. Treatments range from classic facials to traditional Ayurvedic therapies. An Ayurvedic doctor is on hand for advice and individual Ayurvedic programmes can be put together if guests wish. Ask us about the special Ayurveda Packages available..
Other facilities include a lovely large pool set amongst the gardens. Excursions to a nearby tea plantation, local village producing lace and day trips to the beach can be arranged. The butlers at Amangalla also conduct walking tours around Galle and the Fort.
Bedrooms – are located either on the ground floor close to reception or in the gardens.
Chambers – are larger than the Bedrooms, with a spacious sitting area. The Chambers either face the fort ramparts or are set in the Garden Wing.
Suites – are larger again with a separate bedroom and spacious lounge with chaise longue, writing desk and dining table. The Suites overlook the fort ramparts or the tropical gardens.
