Situated at an altitude of 827m and surrounded by flowering forests and emerald lake, the beautiful town of Pokhara lies on the foothills of the Macchapuchre and the Annapurnas. The city is also known for its lakes and is the starting point of most of the popular treks in Nepal. Deep river ravines, caves, and waterfalls add to the beauty of this valley.
Pokhara is part of a once vibrant trade route extending between India and Tibet. To this day, mule trains can be seen camped on the outskirts of the town, bringing goods to trade from remote regions of the Himalaya. This is also the land of Magars and Gurungs, hardworking farmers and famous warriors who have earned worldwide fame as the Gurkha soldiers.
