Itinerary


Day 1 - Fly from London
Fly from Heathrow to Chennai.
VIEW ACCOMMODATION
Day 2 - Chennai
On arrival you will be met upon and transferred to the Fisherman's Cove for a two night stay. In the afternoon go on a private guided tour of Mahabalipuram and the shore temples to see a heritage site famous for stone carvings, caves and rock temples. [B]

Day 3 - Pondicherry
Drive to Pondicherry with its rich French cultural heritage, dating back to the 17th century, visible in the neatly laid roads, wide and vibrant beaches, beautiful promenades and architecturally imposing buildings. You will also visit Aurobindo Ashram and Auroville, a township which starkly stands out from the surrounding traditional Indian villages and farms. Spend the night at the Del Orient. [B]

Day 4 - Karaikudi
Today you will be driven to Karakudi, the capital of Chettinad, here visit Chettinad Palace, a famous Chettinad mansion also known as the Raja’s palace at Kanadukathan. Stay for two nights at the Visalam. [B]

Day 5 - Chettinad and Trichy
Today you have a tour of the beautiful Chettinad region of Tamilnadu and also the the Rock Fort, a landmark of Trichy. The rock is one of the oldest in the world approximately 3.800 million years, which makes it older than the Himalayas. [B]

Day 6 - Madurai
Drive to the famous temple town of Madurai. Go on an afternoon tour of the city and this evening visit Meenakshi temple to witness the Aarti ceremony in which Lord Shiva is carried in a palanquin accompanied by musicians, temple singers and priests to the temple of his consort Parvati. [B]

Day 7 - Periyar
This morning drive to Thekkady. Enjoy the enchanting journey as the road winds through tranquil countryside, rich plantations & thick jungles. In the afternoon enjoy game viewing by boat in the Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, declared a Tiger Reserve in 1978, although tiger sightings are very rare. The splendid artificial lake formed by the Mullaperiyar Dam across the Periyar River adds to the charm of the park. Spend the night at the Spice Village. [B]

Day 8 - Kumarakom
Travel on to Kumarakom (a four hour journey) and the lush backwaters of Kerala. Kumarakom is Kerala’s heartland of lagoons with palm fringed lakes and paddy fields, interlinked with hundreds of winding canals. Arrive at the Kumarakom Lake Resort where you will spend two nights. Spend the afternoon at your leisure. [B]

Day 10 - Overnight stay at the Backwaters
Today you will go on a private traditional air-conditioned and fully staffed rice barge. Spend the day cruising the backwaters, an unbelievably beautiful paradise of mangrove forests, emerald green paddy fields and coconut groves interspersed with enchanting waterways and canals. Watching village life unfold as you float by and spend an unforgettable night on these tranquil waterways. [B,L,D]

Day 11 - Cochin
Disembark and transfer to Cochin for your two night stay at the Brunton Boatyard. [B]

Day 12 - Cochin
Often known as the ‘Venice of the East’, the city of Cochin has wonderfully diverse influences. Today you will view the Chinese fishing nets, tour the Dutch Palace and Synagogue in the old Jewish town and visit St. Francis Church, built by the Portuguese in 1510 AD. In the evening enjoy a Kathakali dance performance. [B]

Day 13 - Drive to Ooty
This hill station developed by the British in the 19th century is surrounded by rolling hills and valleys covered with pine and eucalyptus forests, and tea and coffee plantations. Spend two nights at the Taj Savoy. [B]

Day 14 - Ooty
Today you will enjoy the popular Toy train ride in Ooty. [B]

Day 15 - Mysore
Today you will drive to Mysore where you will stay at the Royal Orchid Metrople for two nights. [B]

Day 16 - Tour of Mysore
Enjoy a morning sightseeing tour of Mysore visiting the Maharaja’s palace, also known as Amba Vilas, which harmoniously synthesizes the Hindu and the Saracenic styles of architecture. You will also visit Jagnmohan Palace, now converted to an art gallery and also go on a walk through the Devraja flower market of Mysore. [B]

Day 17 - Drive to Bangalore
Drive to Bangalore and en route stop at Srirangapatna where you will visit the remains of the fort and the Hindu temples as well as the summer palace of Tipu Sultan. Spend the night in an airport hotel. [B]

Day 18 - Depart
Fly to London Heathrow.
