Even the arrival into Queenstown is memorable – as you emerge from the airport you notice the magnificent Remarkables mountain range, which is your backdrop for the 15 minute drive into the town itself. Regularly named as one of the world’s top holiday destinations, Queenstown boasts one of the most stunning settings of any town in the world – set against towering alpine mountain ranges and nestled on the shore of Lake Wakatipu. There are plenty of shops, restaurants and galleries to browse as you wander the easy-to-navigate streets and soak up the relaxed atmosphere.
This is truly a year-round destination, and offers a plethora of activities to enjoy regardless of the weather – Queenstown is known as the ‘adventure capital of New Zealand’. Bungee jumping, sky diving, boating, trekking, horse riding, heli-biking and skiing are just some of the active pursuits available to visitors to Queenstown; walking, hiking, sightseeing, boutique shopping, excellent dining and spa treatments are also available for a more relaxing getaway! If it is an adrenaline-fuelled experience you’re after though, we recommend the unique Shotover Jet excursion in the Shotover River Canyons!
Head out of Queenstown and discover the Central Otago landscape unfolding before you. Here you’ll find excellent winelands, as well as many locations from the Lord of the Rings film series. History buffs will enjoy a visit to Arrowtown, famous for gold mining, and the spectacular Fiordland area is home to some of New Zealand’s most dazzling scenery. The Fiordland National Park is where you can witness the famous Milford Sound, and the landscape is full of cascading waterfalls and incredible fiords, sparkling lakes and rugged hills. Some of New Zealand’s best hiking can be found here too, along with strikingly stunning views.
