With rugged coastlines, inspiring wildlife, delicious cuisine, fascinating history, friendly locals and stunning views to boot, Atlantic Canada is one of the most diverse and unforgettable destinations in the world. Western & Oriental is delighted to announce the arrival of our Atlantic Canada portfolio, including some of the most iconic sights in the ‘Great White North’.
Just a 5-6 hour flight from the UK, Atlantic Canada is in fact the closest North American destination to Europe, and is made up of four distinct provinces – New Brunswick, Newfoundland & Labrador, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island. Each province offers visitors something different, but all deliver outstanding views and exciting experiences.
New Brunswick has over 2,000 kilometres of coastline and delivers some of the most breath-taking natural scenery anywhere in the world, from the striking geological formations at Hopewell Rocks to Fundy National Park, where you can hike through scenic forest trails, take a dip in the heated saltwater pool and glimpse the world’s highest tides!
Similarly, Newfoundland is bursting with natural wonders, with the town of Twillingate known as the ‘iceberg capital of the world’! One day you could find yourself whale watching, the next exploring the colourful capital St John’s. This unique region is ripe for exploring, with plenty of fascinating history to discover.
Nova Scotia offers a warm welcome and plenty of things to do. Here you’ll find more than 100 beaches, rugged seascapes and incredible seafood. Halifax is Atlantic Canada’s largest city, and offers visitors plenty of galleries, historical sites and attractions to explore, and with the highest number of pubs per capita anywhere in Canada, you’re sure to find lively nightlife and plenty of great food.
Golfers will love Prince Edward Island, which boasts more than 25 picturesque courses. But there’s plenty more here, too – from excellent cycling trails to world-class oysters. The classic book Anne of Green Gables was based here, and the landscape really is like something out of a storybook, with patchwork fields, rolling hills, scenic seaside villages and friendly countryside farms.
There’s so much to do and see in Atlantic Canada that it’s virtually impossible to choose just one spot to visit, so we’ve put together a selection of self-drive holidays that include lots of the best sights, attractions and experiences. Our Maritime Atlantic Canada tour travels through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick and Prince Edward Island, taking in some of the amazing parks and natural sights to be found here. You’ll drive along some of the most spectacular coastal routes in North America, including the famous Cabot Trail, and experience highlights including historic Annapolis Royal and the charming city of Halifax.
Explore Newfoundland’s amazing wildlife and rugged scenery on our Tip of the Iceberg self-drive, which visits the heritage town of Trinity, the spectacular Gros Morne National Park and vibrant St John’s. Enjoy a cruise to Witless Bay for an incredible nature experience – the area is known for great whale watching, and is home to hundreds of thousands of Atlantic puffins and some truly jaw-dropping landscapes.
