REVIEWED: THE ROCKY MOUNTAINEER

Esther Smit | 1 Nov, 2017
The Rocky Mountaineer, Canada

Travelling by train is one of the best ways to explore the beauty of a country at a leisurely pace, and in a comfortable way. If you are considering visiting British Colombia and Alberta in western Canada, then the Rocky Mountaineer should definitely be part of your itinerary. I was lucky enough to experience this train last month and would recommend it to everyone!

A luxury train travelling at average speeds of 35 miles per hour through the beautiful landscape of British Colombia and the Rocky Mountains, you can just sit back in your comfortable leather seat and enjoy the stunning mountains, forests, many rivers, lakes and wildlife while being served delicious food and plentiful drinks at your seat by the knowledgeable and friendly hosts who will entertain you with wonderful stories along the way.

The SilverLeaf Service includes reclining seats in a single-level glass-dome coach with oversized windows, staying in comfortable accommodation on route, as well as all your food and drinks. If you are looking to splash out a bit for a special occasion or want a bit more luxury then the GoldLeaf Service is the way to go - enjoy panoramic views from your reclining seats in the upper level of your bi-level dome coach, more gastronomic and abundant food served in the dining area downstairs, more extensive and unlimited drinks available from a larger team of hosts to meet your needs, and of course more luxurious accommodation with premium rooms at your station stops.

The train operates on four routes between Vancouver and Jasper, Banff or Seattle, with over 60 extension packages by coach or with car hire – so there is guaranteed to be a package that includes all the sights you are looking to include in your trip!

No visit to western Canada is complete without at least three to four nights in Vancouver to explore the vibrant city and the surrounding area: visit Vancouver Island for a whale watching tour from Victoria or search for grizzly and black bears from Tofino, Knight Inlet and Campbell River; take a trip up to Grouse Mountain for the stunning views over Vancouver and Stanley Park; and walk across the 137m long and 70m high Capilano Suspension Bridge.

If you’re looking at travelling to Canada, give me a call on 0207 666 1379 to see how I can incorporate the Rocky Mountaineer into your tailor-made holiday itinerary!
