After a long, cold winter here in the UK, there’s nothing better than jetting off for a bit of sun. Corfu has long been a favourite destination here at Western & Oriental; with a flight time of around four hours and plenty of sun, this is the perfect escape for couples and families alike. Having completed the final stages of a huge renovation project, we took a look at what MarBella Corfu has to offer travellers…
Nestled amongst olive trees and with phenomenal views over the Ionian Sea, MarBella Corfu is a spectacular choice for your European escape. The final phases of the €20-million renovation to the property have been completed; with a brand-new lobby that now accentuates the sumptuous views and blends with the hotel’s natural surroundings, ensuring that as soon as you arrive, you feel right at home in this smart, contemporary and welcoming resort hotel. The refurbishment was carried out in two stages, with the main works completed in 2012 and 2014; with the impressive rejuvenation also seeing rooms and suites completely refreshed, with many also becoming more spacious.
Should you wish to drag yourself away from the hotel’s many activities and facilities, you’ll find Corfu town only 30 minutes away. But with so much to do at MarBella Corfu, we think you’ll be more than happy to settle in…
There is a range of activities on offer to immerse yourself in Greek culture; from ceramic and pottery classes (for children and adults) to making jewellery inspired by Greek mythology. For something a bit more contemporary, the hotel runs a robotics workshop for children with a focus on maths and engineering – your brood can try their hand at 3D printing and even making small moving robots!
The new Meli Crèche, Kids and Teens Clubs keep younger guests entertained, with staff members on hand from Worldwide Kids. The Crèche provides a special programme designed for infants aged from four months up to three years. For children aged four to 12, the Kids Club offers a range of activities including shows, picnics, parties and excursions. Older children and teens aged between 12 and 18 will also find space at MarBella Corfu to hang out with others their own age; activities include watersports, cooking lessons and football. Children of all ages will love the waterpark-style kids pool, while the toddler pool has calmer waters just 30 centimetres deep – perfect for your little one’s first dip. For grown-ups, the hotel offers a freshwater and a seawater swimming pool.
While the kids are having fun you might want to keep up (or get back to!) your fitness routine; the MarBella Corfu Running Club organises hour-long runs three times per week, and guests also have complimentary access to the fully-equipped gym and fitness rooms. The wide selection of daily activities includes water gym sessions, yoga, stretches, tennis and more.
Of course, you may also wish to take some well-earned relaxation time. The luxurious spa offers an extensive treatment menu, with therapists using APIVITA and Environ products. You’ll find a variety of available treatments, including massages for couples, individuals and even kids!
Head to the hotel organised beach (accessed by an underground passage), where you can choose to relax on the sand or head to the Adventure Centre and take to the water in a kayak or on a stand-up paddleboard. The ‘Marbellous Experiences’ programme puts on theme nights and a wide selection of activities with something to suit every guest. Activities during the day can include table tennis, water aerobics, language lessons and Latin dance sessions; while later on you could test yourself at a quiz, throw caution to the wind at a casino night, or let your hair down at the mini-disco and karaoke evening!
Mealtimes are another adventure here. The main restaurant, La Terraza, serves a breakfast buffet and Greek and international specialities for lunch and dinner. Elsewhere sample Italian cuisine at poolside Comodo, local delicacies at Platea or treat yourself to an ice cream at Splash American Diner. For beachside dining, head to Dolphin Restaurant & Bar or La Bussola Restaurant. A new dining partnership with celebrated chef Pericles Koskinas, who was born and raised on the island, heralds another exciting development for foodie visitors to MarBella Corfu.
So, between the exciting options for younger visitors and the endless entertainment and relaxation options on offer for you, the newly refreshed MarBella Corfu is a premium choice for your next European retreat in the sun.
