LUXURY AND LAGOONS IN LANGKAWI

Western & Oriental Destination Experts | 14 Nov, 2017

Just off the north-west coast of Malaysia, the Langkawi archipelago is a collection of stunning islands in the Andaman Sea, perfect for a holiday combining beach relaxation with active adventure.

With a number of top hotels in the area, as well as the new Ritz-Carlton opening soon, we sent a few members of our team to see it for themselves. Here’s what they had to say…

Arriving in Langkawi we instantly felt at ease, very relaxed and extremely safe. Our driver escorted us to our vehicle and to our surprise he had blocked in many other cars into the car park.

When we asked if this caused issues, he pointed at the keys already hanging in the ignition and simply said “people can move it if they wish”! It really made us laugh, as the thought of leaving your keys in the ignition at London Heathrow (our departure airport) was unthinkable! But London seemed like a very distant, busy and cold memory in this beautiful tropical environment.

We left the airport and all we could see for miles was jungle green and lagoon blue in every direction. The scenery was simply beautiful.

During our visit we looked around a number of top hotels and not one disappointed. Favourites included the Four Seasons Langkawi as it offered a little bit of everything and the service was impeccable. The new Ritz-Carlton property looked amazing too, and although we did not see it fully open and functioning, it really offered a fabulous product with the most beautiful ocean views from all aspects of the resort.

All the hotels fitted beautifully into their natural surroundings and had fantastic eco-friendly projects in place to look after their island. The level of service was superb and the local people could not do enough to help us.

The amount of activities the island has to offer both on the water and on land is a definite draw. You can experience a canopy zip wire through the jungle, a cable car to take you to the best and highest view point in Langkawi, a private speedboat into the mangroves and visit Eco Park where you can interact with wild monkeys and watch eagles hunting for prey.

All in all, Langkawi is a superb all-round destination for families and couples and we would urge anyone to go and explore it for themselves.
