Around 23 years ago, I embarked on a degree in Travel and Tourism at Plymouth University. Having enjoyed my course, I used what I had learnt working in worldwide reservations for Hayes & Jarvis. Afterwards, I progressed on to become Product Manager for the Far East, Caribbean, Middle East and Indian Ocean at Key2Holidays. I have been with Western & Oriental since 2004, 10 years has gone quickly, and I am now General Manager overseeing sales, marketing and product development for the brand.
I recently went with my family to celebrate my 40th birthday in India. I have always wanted to visit this magical country so this really was the best present! I did the much travelled Golden Triangle (Delhi, Agra and Jaipur) and was fortunate enough to stay in the Oberoi Hotels and Samode Palace. We also went to the beaches and backwaters of India in beautiful Kerala where we spent time at the Marari Beach Resort. There's still so much more that I want to see in India though! Closer to home, this year I've also spent a long weekend in Tenerife at the lovely Sheraton La Caleta, a great option for families!
There's quite a few on my list! Swimming with whale sharks in The Maldives, game fishing in the Seychelles and meeting orang-utans in Borneo would definitely be my best animal memories. I will also never forget climbing a volcano in Bali and jumping out of a plane at 10, 000 feet in New Zealand - I won't be doing that in a hurry again!
This is always a tricky question, but I'd have to narrow it down to Vietnam because of its fantastic culture and The Maldives as I love the island-hopping experience.
Recently I travelled to The Oberoi Jaipur which would have to now be my favourite hotel. The swimming pools were absolutely wonderful to swim and we were surrounded in the beautiful grounds by peacocks and numerous species of birds.
