On board the American Queen begin this premium tour with a orientation video before leaving for your tour of the Siege at Vicksburg battlefield and city tour to learn about the city’s role in the battle. There will be a narrated tour of the city en route with a licensed battlefield guide. The battlefield site commemorates the campaign; siege and defence of Vicksburg back in 1863 and here see over 1340 monuments and markers, a restored Union gunboat and a National Cemetery.
Today the American Queen arrives in Natchez, home to restored mansions such as the Stanton Hall and Rosalie Mansion. St Francisville, Louisiana
Hop on and hop off the American Queen motorcoach today in St Francisville. It stands above the Mississippi River on a bluff and here there are over 100 buildings on the National Register. Visit the Old Market Hall where there is jewellery, art and music albums sold, and Commercial Street has places to stop off at for bites to eat. The premium excursion takes you to the Angola Plantation, the Alcatraz of the South, to see this impressive prison. On the return, visit one of America's most haunted houses.
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Today arrive in the capital of Louisiana where there is a blend of the old and new. The hop on hop off excursion today starts with a visit to the USS Kidd, a World War II destroyer, with an adjoining Veterans Memorial Museum. Proceed to the Old Governor's Mansion and St Joseph Cathedral. Pick up your souvenirs in the Main Street Market, and then travel past the Capitol Lake and Arsenal Park. You might wish to tour the Louisiana State Capitol building and enjoy the views from the observation deck. Other stops on the loop include a Mardi Gras float, LSU Museum of Art and the Old State Capitol building.
