Board the impressive American Queen steamboat in Memphis travelling to New Orleans (route can also be reversed). This luxury steamboat is the world's largest riverboat and this is one of the most popular routes on The Lower Mississippi. We highly recommend extending your stay in New Orleans after the cruise for a couple of nights.

Day 1
Memphis, Tennessee
Arriving in Memphis, spend the night at the designated hotel for Steamboat passengers.
Day 2
Memphis, Tennessee
Boarding will begin in the afternoon and in the meantime perhaps enjoy a premium pre-cruise tour (at an additional cost) or explore Memphis in your own time. The premium pre-cruise excursion is The King’s Memphis with Graceland. Board the American Queen luxury motor coach for a narrated tour of Memphis passing landmarks such as Sun Studio, The Peabody Hotel, National Civil Rights Museum and Beale Street. Arriving in Graceland, enjoy the Platinum Tour of Memphis which is self-guided and includes admission to the Graceland Mansion and many museums.
Day 3
River Cruising
Today the steamboat travels all day through the South. Sit back and enjoy the cruising on the American Queen.
Day 4
Vicksburg, Mississippi
Disembark at Vicksburg ‘The Red Carpet City of the South’, to enjoy the city’s blend of old meets news. Enjoy the complimentary hop on, hop off bus tour or alternatively, book the premium tour excursion; On the Front Lines of the Civil War. On board the American Queen begin this premium tour with a orientation video before leaving for your tour of the Siege at Vicksburg battlefield and city tour to learn about the city’s role in the battle. There will be a narrated tour of the city en route with a licensed battlefield guide. The battlefield site commemorates the campaign; siege and defence of Vicksburg back in 1863 and here see over 1340 monuments and markers, a restored Union gunboat and a National Cemetery.
Day 5
Natchez, Mississippi
Today the American Queen arrives in Natchez, home to restored mansions such as the Stanton Hall and Rosalie Mansion. Enjoy the complimentary hop on, hop off bus excursion stopping at the Visitors Centre, Longwood and Stanton Hall and Twin Oaks. Alternatively book the premium tour excursion; Entertaining Southern Style with Regina Charboneau. Enjoy a unique cooking class in beautiful Twin Oaks, the home of the American Queen’s culinary director and chef de cuisine, Regina Charboneau. Here she will go through her Southern cooking techniques and enjoy cocktails and treats prepared by her! Leave Twin Oaks with southern recipes, ideal for your next party.
Day 6
St Francisville, Louisiana
Hop on and hop off the American Queen motorcoach today in St Francisville. It stands above the Mississippi River on a bluff and here there are over 100 buildings on the National Register. Visit the Old Market Hall where there is jewellery, art and music albums sold, and Commercial Street has places to stop off at for bites to eat. The premium excursion takes you to the Angola Plantation, the Alcatraz of the South, to see this impressive prison. On the return, visit one of America's most haunted houses.
Day 7
Baton Rouge, Louisiana
Today arrive in the capital of Louisiana where there is a blend of the old and new. The hop on hop off excursion today starts with a visit to the USS Kidd, a World War II destroyer, with an adjoining Veterans Memorial Museum. Proceed to the Old Governor's Mansion and St Joseph Cathedral. Pick up your souvenirs in the Main Street Market, and then travel past the Capitol Lake and Arsenal Park. You might wish to tour the Louisiana State Capitol building and enjoy the views from the observation deck. Other stops on the loop include a Mardi Gras float, LSU Museum of Art and the Old State Capitol building. Alternatively, the premium excursion for this day lasts 5 hours and includes a tour of the city told by charming characters, lunch at Boutin's restaurant where live Cajun music can be enjoyed whilst eating Southern cuisine and a visit to the University's Rural Life Museum and Wind Rush Gardens, a great secret of the city.
Day 8
Plantation Road, Louisiana
Journey to the plantation country of Louisiana to see the homes. The hop on hop off bus excursion today stops at Houmas House, where you can enter and enjoy a tour of the plantation and gardens. There are a choice of two premium excursions today (at an additional cost); a guided visit of Laura: A Creole Plantation or a Swamp Eco Tour.
Day 9
New Orleans, Louisiana
Disembark at 9am today and perhaps enjoy a premium post-cruise excursion or extend your stay in New Orleans and the Deep South. A premium excursion is The Big Easy City Tour which includes a driving tour of the city, a visit to St Charles Avenue where the street cars are and an above ground cemetery, 'The City of the Dead'.
