Suggested Itinerary of Kenya

The collection of lodges we present here place you at the very heart of the wild. Each lodge brings a different perspective to the Kenya experience, and though you may choose to combine only some of the camps, it is recommended that you stay at least 3 days in any particular lodge to enable you to absorb and enjoy the unique atmosphere to the full.

Shompole
GREAT RIFT VALLEY

Lying on the edge of the Great Rift Valley overlooking sun-baked plains, riverine forest, volcanic mountains and green wetlands, Shompole is a truly unique and exquisite place which has been imaginatively and artistically constructed from local materials.  The product of an ongoing partnership with the local Maasai people, the lodge has 8 stylish tented rooms, each with its own 'plunge pool'. Wholly in tune with its environment and operated along eco-friendly lines, the lodge is near the salt lakes of Natron and Magadi and amongst the many lodge activities are sundowner visits to see the resident flamingos.

Cottar's 1920s Camp
MASAI MARA

The Cottar family operated the very first photographic safari in 1919 and, with Cottar's 1920s Camp, they return to the original spirit and essence of safari, reminiscent of a golden era of professional guiding. With just 8 authentic and luxuriously furnished white canvas tents, the camp is situated in the Masai Mara, bordering the Serengeti and Loliondo reserves. This vast, untouched area offers the discerning traveller a guarantee of privacy and an abundance of diverse wildlife.

Loisaba
LAIKIPIA

Only a few miles from the equator, this private conservancy of 60,000 acres is in a wilderness of remote beauty where management and local community work together to preserve the environment. The stunning lodge clings to the edge of a plateau and, with unsurpassed views that defy description, the 7 rooms in the main lodge have private decks that cantilever off the escarpment.  Guests have limitless adventure opportunities, not just for game viewing, but also activities such as rock climbing and camel trekking. Loisaba is a sanctuary for mind, body and soul.

Tortilis Camp
AMBOSELI

Facing the foothills of snow-capped Mt Kilimanjaro, Tortilis Camp is a charming luxurious tented lodge, set on the side of a hill and nestling in a verdant acacia grove. Your first view across the tree-studded plains will simply take your breath away. The 17 comfortable and spacious tents, each raised on a wooden deck, have striking furnishings and local artefacts, and provide complete privacy with great views. Amboseli is considered one of the best places in Kenya to watch elephants following their ancient rituals and the Maasai guides will bring the bush alive on the walks and game drives. The lodge is very suitable for young guests.

Elsa's Kopje
MERU NATIONAL PARK

Built close to the sight of the original camp from where George and Joy Adamson released Elsa the lioness into the wild, Elsa's Kopje blends into the rocky crags and hillside, almost invisible to the eye. The ultimate 'room with a view', each of the 9 elegant stone and thatch cottages is open fronted with views across the untamed expanse of the Meru plains. Travellers passionate about peace and true wilderness will be inspired, and in between a bush breakfast at the hippo pools and sundowners out on the plains, the game drives and walks will bring many exciting wildlife sightings.

Loldia House
LAKE NAIVASHA

On one of the country's oldest farms, Loldia House nestles under acacia trees on the shores of Lake Naivasha in the spectacular Great Rift Valley. Decorated in colonial style with original furniture, there are 9 rooms in the charming old family house and cottages, each with breathtaking views across the lake to the dormant volcano of Mt Longonot. You can explore the farm's 8,000 acres by foot or on horseback amongst wild antelope and zebra, take boat trips on the lake and enjoy exceptional bird watching.
