Suggested Itinerary of Robin Pope Safaris
They and their guests explore the park both by vehicle and on foot, though it is for their walking safaris that they are particularly famed - these can range from a simple morning walk to a five day safari. But, whatever the duration, it is the enthusiasm of the guests that dictates the pace of the day.
There are three small and intimate safari camps, all set on the banks of the Luangwa River with sweeping views and located next to a water hole that attracts game throughout the day. In addition, there is a mobile camp that supports the walking safaris and two private houses.
Nkwali
Nkwali has 6 reed and thatch chalets overlooking the river. Set on Robin's private land, Nkwali overlooks the National Park where open grasslands and quiet ebony groves often provide sightings of giraffe, elephant and sometimes leopard. From here, access into South Luangwa is by pontoon and boat.
Tena Tena
Situated on a bend of the Luangwa River at a secluded location within the park, there are 5 large and comfortable tents and a thatch roof bar and dining room. There is always game to be seen on the riverbank and the nearby Buca Buca lagoon is likely to provide dramatic sightings.
Nsefu
Also located inside the park, this was the first safari camp in Zambia having opened in 1952. Restored in the original style in 1999, the camp is now a place of understated elegance. With excellent river views, the lodge, with its 6 simple but stylish rondavels is at the heart of an undeveloped part of the park where the river and waterhole attract a very wide variety of wildlife.
