BUSTLING CAPITAL WITH THREE-WHEELER TAXIS

Relax before exploring Colombo. This vibrant and exciting city has a fascinating colonial history. Visit the old Town Hall, stroll around the Fort, see the Gordon Gardens of the Lighthouse Clock Tower, but make sure you have enough time to shop in the colourful bazaar in Pettah.

BABY ELEPHANTS

Head inland to Habarana, on the way visit the delightful Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage. This central town is an ideal base to explore from. Visit Sigiriya's Rock Fortress; the splendid Buddha sculptures of the Gal Vihara complex at Polonnaruwa and the 5th century monastic city of Anuradhapura.

SINGHALESE KINGDOM OF KANDY

But before you get to Kandy, visit the Dambulla Cave Temple and see the painted caves and inscriptions at the Jambukolalena vihara. The picturesque city of Kandy is home to the sacred Temple of the Tooth as well as a beautiful place to explore. Visit the Royal Botanical Gardens at Peredeniya, this royal park has magnificent landscaping, glorious flowers and over 10,000 trees.

TEA PLANTATIONS - BANDARAWELA

En route to Bandarawela view one of the many picturesque tea plantations and tea factories that dot the hill sides. In Bandarawela, relax and enjoy the atmosphere of staying on the edge of the Aislabie Tea Estate where the colonial heritage is all around you.

OFF ON SAFARI

Head off for Yala National Park for your stay in a lodge. Experience a jeep safari through open parkland, filled with waterholes, small lakes and streams that provide a wonderful opportunity to view elephant, leopard, elk and the sloth bear.

AND FINALLY, TO THE BEACH

What better way to end this fascinating tour than to unwind for a few days stretched out on one of Sri Lanka's many beautiful beaches at Bentota. Indulge in some serious rest and relaxation before the flight back to London.
