LAND ON TOP OF THE WORLD - PARO

From Calcutta, over the great Himalayas your flight to Bhutan is an experience. Paro is your first taste of this unique culture; visit the Ta Dzong National Museum, explore the Rinpung Dzong fortress and the ruined Drukgyel Dzong. Next day hike to the viewpoint at Taktsang Monastery.

HISTORY AND CRAFT - THIMPU

The modern capital Thimpu is a must for sightseeing; the National Library with its priceless collection of Buddhist manuscripts, a Royal Memorial Stupa, a painting school filled with traditional craft, Majestic Tashichhodzong and the Textile & Folk Heritage Museum, a fascinating testimony of Bhutan’s living traditions.

TRONGSA AND BUMTHANG

En route to Trongsa you will visit Wangdue town and cross the Pele la Pass, the traditional boundary between East and West. Explore the sights of Trongsa Dzong, and the Kuenga Rabten Palace before driving onto Bumthang. More history awaits you as you visit the Lhakhangs of Kurjey, Jambey and Tamshing as well as hiking along old mule tracks to Ura, viewing lakes and mountains along the way.

TEMPLES, VILLAGES, PEACE - GANGTEY - PUNAKHA

While driving from Bumthang to Punakha, drive via the glacial valley of Phobjikha, home of the black-necked crane; visit Gangtey Monastery before heading back to Punakha. Next day visit magnificent Punakha Dzong and visit the temple of Divine Madman also known as temple of fertility.

PUNAKHA - PARO

Early morning drive to Paro across Dochula pass that heralds the most enchanting views of Bhutan. Your final day in Bhutan will also be spent exploring the Nunnery Monastery of Kila Gompa, set high in the mountains. This sacred meditation site will give you a lasting memory of this beautiful kingdom before you head back to Calcutta and on to London.
