Suggested Itinerary of East India

CALCUTTA

The city of Calcutta has inspired many with its soul and vibrancy. Explore the curious mix of colonial and Bengali; from flower markets by the Hooghly River and stunning Botanical Gardens to the wonderful Victoria Memorial and India Museum.

TEA, ANYONE - DARJEELING

A quick flight to Bagdogra where your driver will meet you to take you to Darjeeling. Renowned the world over, Darjeeling is surrounded by vast tea estates and within sight of Mount Everest. Touring Darjeeling, hiking in the beautiful forests or watching the wildlife can all be done from your time at the Glenburn Tea Estate.

HILLTOP MONASTERIES - PELLING AND GANGTOK

Then it is deep into the hills to the small hamlet of Pelling. Visit the local monastery or walk in the hills, away from it all. Take a trek through remote villages and visit a secluded monastery at Tashiding. Next your driver will take you through staggering mountain scenery to Sikkim's capital Gangtok, perched high on a ridge and inhabited predominantly by Buddhists. The next day, to Tashi View Point with it's spectacular views of Mount Kanchenjunga and the little visited Phodang Monastery.

SAMTHAR

As you head to Samthar you will stop at the Rumtek Monastery before you continue your journey. The next day explore the countryside on the Lepcha Valley Trek; walk on the remote Samthar Plateau, seeing Lepcha settlements whose traditional way of life remains unchanged.

MARKETS, FLOWERS AND MONASTERIES - KALIMPONG

A gentle morning walk on the plateau before a leisurely drive to the small market town of Kalimpong. Explore the bustling markets, flower nurseries and monasteries, a delightful end to this gentle journey. Home will be via Bagdogra for your flight to Calcutta and onward journey to London.
