Best Time to Visit:

India has various climatic zones. Generally the winter (October to mid-March) is the best time to visit the majority of India when the weather is coolest and driest. The monsoon breaks in South India in mid-June and travels slowly north through the summer until the end of August. Late April, May and June are extremely hot, except in the Himalayan foothills. which are most beautiful this time of year.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION

1. WESTERN & ORIENTAL TRAVEL CONSULTANTS
We enjoy what we do and it shows in the tours we design. Our consultants have years of experience of travelling and holidaying in India and the Subcontinent. They are knowledgeable and dedicated and are eager to share their experience and advice with you.

2. OUR INFORMATION
We continue to travel around the region regularly, in order to keep up to speed with any new developments. So when you speak to one of our consultants you will be given the very latest on hotels, tours and any new destination opportunities. And not only that, you will be talking to an expert, someone who understands the culture, customs and ways of this fascinating and multi-layered region. It also means that you can be sure to explore and enjoy the sort of experiences that are off as well as on the well-trodden tourist track.

3. ON THE GROUND
We have representatives based in India and the Subcontinent, with offices in Mumbai, Delhi, Chennai, Goa and Kerala. Together with a wide network of regional agents throughout the country, working on our behalf to ensure the smooth running of your holiday. We have similar representation in Bhutan and Sri Lanka.

4. HOTELS
We aim to use both the best and the most interesting hotels. From the luxurious international hotels to the unique heritage hotels, hill stations, forts and rice barges. Do bear in mind, when choosing your tour, that converted forts and palaces in the smaller cities, whilst retaining their charm and character, can be basic and do not offer the comfort of other international hotels. To indicate overnight accommodation we have used the abbreviation o/n.

5. GUIDES & DRIVERS
You will have your own private driver, usually travelling in an airconditioned Ambassador Car (upgrade to Toyota Qualis or similar available on request). Where appropriate, you will also have an English-speaking guide. If you have a specific interest let us know, (e.g. architecture, religion) as we can arrange a guide to suit your requirements. On certain days of your trip you will be 'at leisure'. On these days no sightseeing has been arranged, however if you wish your driver to be made available please ask our staff for details.

6. PLANES, TRAINS AND AUTOMOBILES
There's no doubt that travelling by road in India and the Subcontinent is the best way to see the country and many of our itineraries contain a certain amount of road travel with a private driver. Some of our tour itineraries cover larger areas and for these we would of course recommend flying or train travel. Thankfully there are now several airlines operating within India and their services are constantly improving. Although timings and schedules can be a little erratic, they are generally reliable. Train travel is a must while in this part of the world. Not only is it great fun, it's an extremely rewarding way of seeing the country. Although sadly no longer pulled by steam, they still evoke images of the earlier, great days of train travel.

7. HOW TO BOOK
Our consultants will be delighted to discuss your requirements. We will plan and price an itinerary that matches your requirements and respond promptly by email to outline any ideas that you may wish to send us.

8. FINANCIAL SECURITY
Western & Oriental Travel Limited is the holder of ATOL licence number 6094. All the flights and air holidays in this brochure are protected and bonded under this licence in accordance with the requirements of the Civil Aviation Authority.

9. PRICING
For each suggested intinerary in our brochure we have included a per person 'from price', to provide an indication of the cost for two people travelling together and sharing a twin room. Unless stated otherwise, all our prices include internal transportation, local guides as applicable and flights to and from London. All our tours are created to your specifications and prices are principally determined by duration, levels of accommodation and flights required.

10. HEALTH
There are no compulsory vaccinations for travel to India, although we strongly recommend that you protect yourself against Polio, Tetanus, Typhoid, Cholera, Hepatitis A and Malaria. We strongly advise that you contact your doctor or travel clinic allowing at least three weeks before the date of travel for all medical advice regarding you trip. We also suggest that you take a travel medical kit appropriate to your destination, length of trip and general health, including items such as remedies for minor stomach ailments, dehydration and motion sickness. To protect against the risk of malaria we also recommend you take mosquito repellent.

11. VISAS & SPECIAL PERMITS
All UK passport holders require a visa to enter India which must be obtained prior to your departure. Western & Oriental Travel can organise this for you at a price of ?75 per application. Alternatively you can organise this yourselves directly at the Indian High Commission. Please visit www.hcilondon.org for more information. Please note, if you are arriving into India more than once during your stay you will require a multi-entrance visa.

In addition to the entry visas, special permits are required to visit the following areas of India:.

North Eastern Frontier States (Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh), border areas of Jammu & Kashmir, selected areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttranchal, Union Territories of Andaman and Lakshadweep Islands. We will require at least 4 weeks to apply for a special permit on your behalf.

12. GROUND ONLY ARRANGEMENTS
All our itineraries are priced inclusive of international flights in economy class; please contact our staff if you require a ground only costing.

13. ONE LAST THING
Our aim is to provide you with the ultimate holiday experience in this extraordinary region. With tropical jungles, remote deserts and lost civilisations, we know there's always something new to discover, and we believe that for a region as rich and enchanting as India and the Subcontinent, you need someone who can uncover and share it's delights to the fullest.

We look forward to sharing our experience with you.
