PARADISE REDISCOVERED

In the 14th century, Portuguese and Arab traders passing through the northeast coast of Mozambique discovered an island refuge in the Indian Ocean. Taking its name from the Swahili word for sleep they called it Quilálea. This peaceful island sanctuary is now part of the spectacular Quirimbas Archipelago Marine National Park.

LUXURIOUS SECLUSION

The island is uninhabited except for the nine elegant and spacious villas that provide the superb accommodation of this exclusive and private resort. Along with the dining pavilion, bar and plunge pool, the villas are set on a peninsula at the north end of the island.  Handcrafted with coral rock walls, Makuti thatch and teak decks, each has mahogany doors that open onto panoramic views of the crystalline ocean.

AN UNDERWATER WONDERLAND

On one of the two beautiful white sand beaches that sit either side of the peninsula is Quilálea's marine pavilion. From here, expert dive instructors lead underwater safaris through colourful coral gardens and the protected waters which teem with an astonishing variety of marine life. There are introductory dives for beginners plus a wide selection of PADI certificates for divers of all levels.

ISLAND PLEASURES

Amongst many other pleasures are bird watching, whale watching, big game fishing outside of the protected areas, kayaking and excursions to some of the other fascinating islands in the archipelago. Once a forgotten part of Africa, there is now the opportunity to enjoy the romance of rediscovery in real African/Arabian luxury.
