From the Old West towns of Montana to the thermal geysers of Wyoming and the Mount Rushmore National Memorial in South Dakota, discover and make your own adventures in the Rocky Mountains. Day 1 - UK - Denver, Colorado
Fly from the UK into Denver. Denver offers fantastic shopping opportunities in Larimer Square in the downtown area as well as in the nearby Cherry Creek Shopping Centre. Fill your time visiting the Victorian area of the city with its quaint courtyards and gardens as well as microbreweries. Outside the centre lie Coors Brewery and the Red Rocks Park & Amphitheatre - be sure to check the latter's calendar of events to see if you can catch a performance.

Day 3 - Denver - Cheyenne, Wyoming (102 miles)
Leave Denver today and travel into Wyoming and directly to the state’s capital, Cheyenne. Here learn about the Frontier Days in the Old West Museum. Frontier Days is a rodeo that takes place annually in July and lasts a week. In the town, there is also a State Capitol, Big Boy Steam Engine and Cheyenne Depot and Depot Museum to explore.

Day 4 - Cheyenne - The Black Hills, South Dakota (280 miles)
Travel into South Dakota today to the Black Hills, en route visiting the Wind Cave National Park. This park is home to the world’s sixth longest cave which is has to popcorn, boxwork and frostwork formations to see. Custer State Park, your destination for the day, is the second largest state park in the US. It has 1,500 bison and you might get a chance to see some of these on the 18 mile Wildlife Loop Road.

Day 5 - The Black Hills of South Dakota
Sure to be on your USA bucket list, today see the Mount Rushmore National Memorial. This impressive carving showcases four of America’s Presidents – Abraham Lincoln, George Washington, Thomas Jefferson and Theodore Roosevelt. Nearby, the Crazy Horse Memorial is a large monument, which remembers a Native American Warrior. Spend the night in Deadwood. Day 6 - Deadwood - Badlands National Park, South Dakota (100 miles)
Travel to Rapid City which hosts a number of museums including the Journey Museum depicting the history of the Black Hills region. After departing the gateway town, enter the Badlands National Park. This beautiful park consists of canyons, buttes and fossils. In the park, you can drive the main loop road, visit the fossil lab and talk to some experts in the visitor centre.

Day 7 - Badlands - Bismarck, North Dakota (290 miles)
Leave South Dakota today to travel into North Dakota and the two cities of Bismarck-Mandan. The former is the capital of the state yet it is in Mandan that you can visit earth lodges which are covered partially with earth and hail from the Native American era. Be sure to also walk in General Custer’s footsteps in Fort Abraham Lincoln, who was commander of this area until his death.

Day 8 - Bismarck - Theodore Roosevelt National Park, North Dakota (135 miles)
Instead of driving straight on the I-94 W to the Theodore Roosevelt National Park, we recommend taking a slight detour south onto the Enchanted Highway. This 32 mile highway is home to some impressive concrete and metal sculptures. On arrival in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park (the gateway town is Medora), perhaps initially visit the South Unit Visitor Centre to learn about the President’s time in the North Dakota Badlands. Day 9 - Medora - Billings, Montana (285 miles)
Travel from Medora straight to the Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument which stands as a monument for both the U.S. 7th Cavalry and the Native American Indians (Sioux and Cheyenne). Afterwards, arrive in just an hour over at Billings for a night’s stay.

Day 10 - Billings - Helena, Montana (240 miles)
Explore Montana’s towns today starting with Billings and then proceeding onto Bozeman. Here pause to explore the Museum of the Rockies to see an impressive collection of dinosaur fossils. In Helena, walk around the Main Street known as the Last Chance Gulch, see the State Capitol Building and for something completely different, visit the modern collection of art at the Holter Museum.

Day 11 - Helena - Glacier National Park, Montana (205 miles)
Before travelling to Glacier National Park, you might wish to explore the Missouri River by boat through the Gates of the Mountains. In Glacier National Park, known as the Crown of the Continent, see grizzly bears, bighorn sheep and elk. To see the park, drive the Going-to-the-Sun Road or take a hike.

Day 13 - Whitefish - Butte, Montana (250 miles)
Start to journey south today via Flathead Lake and Missoula, where there are plenty of outdoor activities to be enjoyed. Make a detour into Philipsburg (the Ranch at Rock Creek is located nearby), and here it is possible to go mining for sapphires in the Gem Mountain. You can purchase a bucket of gravel and then spend time sifting through in the hope of finding a sapphire! Afterward, travel onto Butte for the night.

Day 14 - Butte - Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming (178 miles)
In Butte you might wish to walk around the historical area of downtown and then explore the old mining towns of Virginia City or Nevada City. These towns still retain some of their Old West feel. Arrive at Yellowstone National Park before dark to check-in to your hotel.

Day 15 - Yellowstone National Park
Spend a full day exploring Yellowstone, well known for its unique thermal areas. Sights not to be missed are the Old Faithful Geyser, Mammoth Hot Springs and Yellowstone Lake.

Day 16 - Yellowstone - Cody, Wyoming (117 miles)
Leaving from the north east entrance of the park, drive the Beartooth Scenic Highway travelling in both the states of Wyoming and Montana. Arrive in Cody where you can explore the Buffalo Bill Centre of the West. This is home to several museums, we recommend visiting the Buffalo Bill Museum to learn about the founder of Cody. If you time it well, you’ll be able to see a live shoot-out show by the Irma Hotel, and if you are travelling from 01 June to 31 August, attend the Cody Nite Rodeo.

Day 17 - Cody - Riverton, Wyoming (138 miles)
Travel south into Thermopolis where you can visit what is said to be the world’s largest mineral hot springs. Afterwards, drive south on the Wind River Canyon Scenic Byway between ancient cliffs; you might see a number of bighorn sheep on this journey.

Day 18 - Riverton - Jackson, Wyoming (165 miles)
En route to Jackson today stop in Dubois to take some photographs of the ancient log buildings. Arriving in Jackson, you’ll notice the sidewalks are still wooden and there are still traditional saloon bars such as the Million Dollar Cowboy and Silver Dollar Bar.
