Overview


A wonderful longer tour showcasing the very best of Sri Lanka has to offer. You will visit many cultural and historic highlights including Kandy, Sigiriya and Polonnaruwa. Learn about the islands spices and how they are used, visit a tea plantation where you have the chance to learn about the history and production of this old favourite. Finally visit two of Sri Lanka’s most important national parks and if you are very lucky you may even enjoy a rare sighting of a wild Leopard.

Day 1 - UK - Colombo
Fly from the UK to Colombo on an overnight flight
VIEW ACCOMMODATION
Day 2 - Arrival from the UK – Habarana
On arrival you will be met by a Western and Oriental representative and your driver-guide. You will then transfer to Habarana for three nights’ stay. The remainder of the day is at leisure to relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings of your hotel. Habarana is located in the centre of Sri Lankas cultural triangle making it the perfect base from which to explore the spectacular historical sites including Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and Kandy.

Day 3 - Polonnaruwa
After breakfast you will visit Polonnaruwa, once the 2nd capital city of Sri Lanka built in the 11th and 12th centuries AD, and which is now a World Heritage Site. Polonnaruwa is famed for its ruins of the Royal Palace, the Gal Viharaya with its splendid statues of the Buddha in four postures carved out of rock, the Audience Hall, the Lotus Bath and the statue of King Parakramabahu. Day 4 - Sigirya Rock
After breakfast drive to Sigiriya and climb the 5th century Sigiriya rock fortress which is a world heritage site, built by King Kashyapa (477-495 AD). The 'Lion Rock' is a citadel of unusual beauty rising 200 metres from the scrub jungle. The rock was the innermost stronghold of the 70 hectare fortified town. Day 5 - Dambulla Rock Temple - Kandy
After breakfast you will visit the impressive Dambulla rock temple, a World Heritage Site which was built by king Walagambahu in the 1st century B.C. Day 6 - Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage - Peradeniya botanical gardens
A morning drive to visit the Pinnawela Elephant Orphanage, established in 1975 with seven orphans and now one of Sri Lanka’s most popular tourist sites, but also a conservation and educational centre, supported by local and international experts with a scientific captive-breeding programme. Day 10 - Return home or extend your tour on the Beach
Today your tour ends, you will be transferred to Colombo Airport for your onward flight or alternatively to one of Sri Lanka's beach destinations for a relaxing beach extension.
