Overview

Surrounded by 15 acres of beautifully manicured French gardens and sitting across from the Royal Palace, is one of the great hotels of Indochina. Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor perfectly fuses timeless colonial grandeur with local spiritual significance.

Raffles Grand Hotel d’Angkor first opened its doors in 1932 as a luxury offering for the first wave of tourists visiting the temples of Angkor Wat, since then many have passed through its door and it still remains today as one of the region’s finest hotels.

Each of the 115 rooms, villas and suites embodies the timeless elegance of a Raffles hotel but gently infused with Cambodian influences, which shine through in its fine furniture and detailings.

After a day of exploring the temples and local markets, guests can relax around the country’s largest swimming pool while enjoying a cocktail or two. The spa offers a wide range of treatment options too and is the ideal place to while away an hour or two in true luxury.

There is a plethora of dining options on offer too ranging from Royal Khmer cuisine to champagne breakfasts or poolside cocktails. The Elephant Bar is somewhat of an institution and attracts tourists and hotel guests alike in search of one of the fine signature cocktails.

Don’t miss a traditional Khmer Massage in the spa – a healing therapy, where the body is manipulated into positions described as ‘passive stretching’.

Our Advice

  • Check out the colour of the trousers: the doormen where different coloured trousers for each day of the week – which is believed to bring good luck – and it made sure the King knew what day of the week it was! The tradition continues today.
  • Visit Angkor Wat temple at sunrise – but go there in the super cool Raffles 1950s Jeep.
