Hotel Overview

Insider's View

  • You are welcomed at The Amala like a family member. The hotel staff are genuinely friendly and can't do enough for you!
  • The Wellness Menu is quite extensive with yoga and meditation on offer in addition to traditional spa treatments
  • For a romantic dinner a deux ask your butler to arrange a candlelit dinner, poolside in the privacy of your own villa.

In the ancient Sanskrit language “Amala” means pure and unspoiled, and there is no better way to sum up this charming boutique resort. The Amala is tucked away in the heart of the chicest neighbourhood in Bali, Seminyak.

Following the Zen design of sister property The Balé in Nusa Dua, The Amala’s ultra private villas are perfect for a romantic getaway (the resort doesn’t accept children under 12). Spa Villas feature a private plunge pool as well as a unique steam shower that can be scented with wild herbs – spiced citrus makes for a refreshing wake up. The Pool Villas have a larger pool and decking area as well as a kitchenette. Whichever villa you choose, a butler is on hand 24 hours a day to attend to your every whim.

When it comes to dining, you’re free to take every meal in the privacy of your villa. Alternatively enjoy nutritious, seasonal Asian cuisine at the intimate poolside Bamboo Restaurant.

Customer Hotel Reviews

Maria Simpson says:

The Samaya was absolutely perfect! Such an excellent welcome and we really loved Ubud. The staff were excellent and really really helpful. We booked a Balinese cooking course whilst we were there, along with the market trip which was well worth the early start. We stayed in a Hill Side villa with pool which was amazing. Beautiful setting for the start of our honeymoon.

The Amala, Seminyak was not quite as special as The Samaya and in hind-sight we should have stayed in Ubud for a touch longer. Whilst Ubud is very chilled and lazy ( I can see why people stay here for long periods of time), Seminyak is the complete opposite. Crazy, busy and loud - if that's what you're after then great - but it was a little much for us. Nevertheless, we found some great places to see and great restaurants - there's lots to choose from! The Amala was a little inconsistent in terms of service.

It seemed to depend on who was on the front desk. We were asked to book the shuttle car into town if we needed to, which we did but it was repeatedly not ready on time. This wouldn't ordinarily be a problem, but when you have dinner reservations it's a little annoying. Equally, we could just have easily got a taxi (cheap as anything) but we promised the use of the car.

At times, the room wasn't quite cleaned well enough - at times we;d get new towels and glasses, at other times we wouldn't. I also found their environmental policy a touch odd. They would turn off the water fountains in the villas at 5pm, to save water presumably, but they also give guests (in the information booklet) an option to choose whether new sheets were required daily.

The guest is supposed to place a wooden leaf on the bed to signal a change - there was none and the sheets were changed regardless. The most odd thing was that you can't buy a glass of wine with dinner - only a bottle! Now for some this wouldn't be an issue, but when your husband doesn't drink wine, doing a bottle a night would probs be a tad much for me!On a more positive note, the spa at The Amala was fantastic. Great service and treatments! We thoroughly enjoyed it!.Nevertheless, we had a great honeymoon and it was brilliant to explore Bali!

Hi Ricky,
Thank-you for sorting the problem with the meals. The Garuda flight was 18 minutes- the shortest flight of my life!

Just a note to say what an amazing honeymoon we had. The Oberoi Lombok and The Samaya Ubud were first class. If you do book another couple into the Samaya, you can recommend villa 105. Stunning.

The Amala Seminyak was fine for a short stay, although, in my opinion our room could have done with a good clean. It was a bit grubby. The place itself was lovely and the staff were very friendly.

Again, the Marinda Mandarin Singpore, was OK. Huge, impersonal place with Holiday Inn style rooms- a bit of a step down from the Samaya, yet adequate for a 2 night stay. Superb location. Terrible concierge - on two occasions when asking for a restaurant they recommended the food court at the adjoining shopping mall! The second time was after explaining that we were on honeymoon.

But overall, a fantastic time. Thank-you!

Kind regards,
Lee Gamble
