Hotel Overview

A part of the Samode group, the Samode Haveli is a hidden gem, a heritage hotel situated in a 175 year old Haveli. Located in the streets of Jaipur, this hotel is bursting with history and character having once been a manor house for the royal family.

Focused around the courtyard with balconies above, the Samode Haveli has walls with hand-painted decorations and an elephant ramp at the entrance. The 39 rooms and suites each have their own character, decorated in white marble and rich colours.

At the Samode Haveli, dine in the former dining hall where regional and international cuisine is served. Afternoon tea can also be enjoyed in the veranda lounge. Having visited bustling Jaipur, lie by the pool in the day beds or Jacuzzi, enjoy Ayurvedic massages in the spa or exercise in the fitness centre.

We can honestly say that the service we received from all W&O representatives has been excellent - the best we have ever experienced.  All the hotels we stayed in were excellent and our favourite hotel was the Samode Haveli; we loved the room and the whole hotel.  We particularly enjoyed Orchha as we experienced rural India which is so different from the cities with so many different sights and experiences to see here.

Hello Nikhil,

To say that we both enjoyed every moment of our holiday adventure in Rajasthan and Kerala is a huge understatement.  To compare these regions is impossible as each has its own magic.  Each leg of the trip was perfectly executed - cars with drivers thoughtfully supplying bottles of cool water and, in Yogi's case, snacks as well.  We felt really cosseted and protected throughout, especially by Mr Biju, whose regular phone calls made us feel the gentle hand of Nikhil from afar.

We adored the Taj Oberoi at Agra with the breathtaking view of the Taj Mahal from our terrace.  We would have been very happy to have stayed there a couple of nights, luxuriating in its splendour.  We also loved the Samode Haveli, such a different venue, linking back to the past with its little courtyards and beautiful pool area.  As for the Lake Palace Hotel - what words can describe it accurately?  Unique, beautiful, gracious and utterly delightful may just do so.

In Kerala, as you planned, the pace of our holiday slowed down. We adored the Coconut Lagoon and the day on the kettuvallam, with its attending service, our trip by canoe down narrow waterways were especially magical and memorable.  The indulgence of having our own pool at the Marari Beach Resort was such a luxury and we certainly made full use of it.  We also used Tuc Tucs to get us around and found such lovely people and were even invited into one driver's home to meet his family - what a privilege!

All in all we had a ball with only one guide whom we could not understand and that was rectified within hours. The only problem we had, both ways, was at Dubai as the distances between gates was enormous.  For instance on the return journey from Cochin we arrived at Gate 3 and had to get to gate 230, an impossibility for us to walk.  We did ask for assistance when confirming the flight but this was not available until we did a little bit of foot stamping (which we hate to do) and then transport was provided.  We feel this assistance should be put in writing so all is clear to ground staff.

However, the foregoing paragraph in no way spoilt the huge enjoyment of our holiday, altogether a lovely experience.  We thank you, Nikhil, for your patience with us, your advice on eating (which we followed to the letter), the expert organisation and the clear way in which the itinerary was written.  Need to say we are tempted to take a second peek at Western & Oriental India brochure!

How do I talk to a specialist in India holidays?

Our destination experts provide a personalised service to tailormake your dream holiday. Within our experienced team we have visited most of the properties we feature and will be able to give you expertise and specialist knowledge from our first hand experience. You will be offered a direct telephone number, so you are able to speak to the same specialist from the time you pick up the phone until your documents are sent out.

Do I have to travel on certain dates and only do the itineraries suggested?

No, we tailormake all our holidays and subject to availability you will be able to travel on any date. The itineraries and holidays on our website are for inspiration and are suggestions only, you can change any aspect according to your personal requirements and available spend.

How far in advance should I book my holiday?

Many customers are under the illusion that booking late secures the best prices. This is often not the case and it is advisable to book early especially if travelling in peak seasons such as Christmas, Easter or school holidays. Many hotels and airlines actually offer special “Early Booking Offers” so you are able to secure the best price early on.

I don’t know what board basis to book. Can I eat out locally, should I consider All Inclusive?

What can I do when I get there?
