Well we asked for diversity in our holiday and that's what we got!! We started off by visiting the Sigirya Rock Fortress and then the temples at Polonnaruwa to get into the history and culture of Sri Lanka along with the Rangiri Dambulla Cave Temple whilst on route to Kandy. Kandy is home to the temple that holds the ToothRelic and is not to be missed along with a visit to the cultural show and The Royal Botanical Gardens. Then off to the mountains to visit the tea plantations for freshly picked tea, fabulous views and a delicious lunch overlooking a stunning waterfall. We stayed at the Heritance Tea Factory Hotel here which is very quirky. A meal on the train behind the hotel was so much fun, the Guard being the star of the show! Next we travelled to Udawalawe National Park which was fantastic, we saw so many elephants, water buffalo, jackal and birds but sadly no leopards.

Yala was our next destination for another safari, this one was much busier with jeeps everywhere and very little wildlife to be seen for obvious reasons, although a deer did stop by the hotel swimming pool for a drink and crocodiles slept on the banks of the lake! Our last stop on Sri Lanka was at Galle which was wonderful, lots of intriguing little lanes to explore down and history to soak up. All our hotels were fabulous, the food and the service excellent, our favourite being Fort Printers in Galle followed closely by Cinnamom Lodge in Habrana. We had a guide for all our time here who was good company, informative, and took us to all the best restaurants for lunch!! The Maldives were heavenly, a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes as we left for home means I hope one day I will be lucky enough to return to this wonderful place! Thank you Anna Rushbrooke for arranging the most wonderful of holidays you certainly exceeded our expectations, hope to travel with Western & Oriental again soon!!

The Wallawwa was charming, we really enjoyed it there, nice room, lovely staff and great food, innovative wine list and all in a very relaxed atmosphere. The pool wasn't located well and not easy to get into, but a wonderful start and finish! The Cinnamon Citadel was in a beautiful location and had a lovely pool, the buffet restaurant was great for breakfast but not for us in the evening, dreadful food and full of coach parties. The wine list had a lot of out of stocks and old vintages. The bathrooms were very small and the room okay but we had a nice balcony overlooking the river. Staff some were really nice and others quite miserable. The Reef had it's highs and lows, fabulous rooms (apart from the flat lumpy pillows) and most of the food was good, although limited western menu at lunchtime. Overpriced wines and not a good selection either. The staff were very nice and overall we enjoyed it.

How do I talk to a specialist in Sri Lanka holidays?

We are happy to give you a call back to discuss your holiday at a convenient time for you or we welcome you to come to our office in central London to discuss your holiday in detail.

Why use our specialist service?

Our destination experts provide a personalised service to tailormake your dream holiday. Within our experienced team we have visited most of the properties we feature and will be able to give you expertise and specialist knowledge from our first hand experience. You will be offered a direct telephone number, so you are able to speak to the same specialist from the time you pick up the phone until your documents are sent out.

Do I have to travel on certain dates and only do the itineraries suggested?

No, we tailormake all our holidays and subject to availability you will be able to travel on any date. The itineraries and holidays on our website are for inspiration and are suggestions only, you can change any aspect according to your personal requirements and available spend.

How far in advance should I book my holiday?

Many customers are under the illusion that booking late secures the best prices. This is often not the case and it is advisable to book early especially if travelling in peak seasons such as Christmas, Easter or school holidays. Many hotels and airlines actually offer special “Early Booking Offers” so you are able to secure the best price early on.

I don’t know what board basis to book. Can I eat out locally, should I consider All Inclusive?

It's always a difficult decision to make before you travel. Call one of our destination experts, who will be happy to advise you on local restaurants and prices you can expect to pay in resort.

What can I do when I get there?

There are many excursions, activities and highlights that are not to be missed out on, whilst in the country. Please contact our experts for advise on whether to prebook these before travel.

What financial protection do you offer?

When booking through Western and Oriental, if your flight is delayed or cancelled due to bad weather or you have a problem in resort it is our responsibility you are taken care of. We offer a 24 hour emergency number to assist with any issues you may have in resort and all of our flight inclusive holidays are financially protected through ATOL bonding for your protection.
