Hotel Overview

Firmly established as one of the top resorts in the region, Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is located on a secluded bay, 45 minutes drive from the airport and 20 minutes to Muscat Town. It is actually three hotels under one resort umbrella, each of which has its own style and personality.

Al Husn is the most luxurious and opulent of the three hotels, with 179 rooms and suites. Arabic in style and theme with butler service, for adults and children over 12 years old only (until December 2012).  it is set on a headland cliff overlooking the rest of the resort. Al Husn boasts a separate infinity swimming pool and an exclusive private 100m beach with beach bar, for use by Al Husn guests only. Guests at Al Husn also benefit from various complimentary extras including mini-bar (soft drinks and beer), laundry, high tea and pre dinner drinks and canapés.

In addition to the dining and leisure facilities at Al Husn, many of which are limited to exclusive use, all the Barr Al Jissah Resort's other amenities are available to all hotel guests. There's a superb selection of restaurants, with a good choice of cuisine, location and price.  Other main facilities include CHI, the Spa and an attractive long beachfront where a selection of watersports can be arranged.

Guests staying in Al Husn receive a welcome glass of champagne or sparkling non-alcoholic beverage at check-in, a daily Local Engilsh or Arabic newspaper, Daily afternoon high tea, Fruit plate & flowers in room, complimentary bottled water in the room, by the pool & at the beach, complimentary WiFi/Broadband internet access, access to the private beach and infinity pool for the exclusive use of Al Husn guests, complimentary Mini Bar (beers,soft drinks,juices & chocolates), complimentary daily pre-dinner drinks and canapes,  Daily Laundry, complimentary Beach Kit including Evian spray & flavoured sparkling water, Daily shuttle bus service to the Muttrah Souk in old Muscat.

Child policy: Children can be accommodated in the Al Husn hotel.Additional bedding, apart from a baby cot, is not permissible in Al Husn guest rooms. Children must occupy an additional room. The Al Husn Pool and Beach is available for guests 16 years and above only, chiildren under 16 yrs are invited to use the pools and beach of the Al Waha and Al Bandar. Children under 12 years are invited to dine at the restaurants of Al Bandar and Al Waha only, although guest of all ages can enjoy breakfast at Sultanah Restaurant at Al Husn.

Please Note: Al Husn and Al Waha will undergo property maintenance from 30 June to 30 July 2014. Al Waha and Al Husn lobby and guest rooms will be refurbished as well as Surf Cafe, Samba Restaurant, Al Muheet Pool Bar, Maharrah Beach Bar.  Al Husn's infinity pool and private beach will also go under refurbishment.  Two culinary high points of Oman may be found at Al Husn hotel:

Sultanah, a stylish restaurant modelled on a cruise

Shahrazad, the only authentic Moroccan restaurant in Muscat, which serves traditional Moroccan cuisine in a contemporary and refined setting.

 Whilst at the beach, enjoy Bait Al Bahr, the ideal place for traditional Omani seafood against the backdrop of a magnificent sunset.

A good hotel offering a haven but with access to the wider facilities of the Shangri-La. Rooms were very well laid out and room 1219 was well sited for getting to breakfast, pool and beach areas. The cocktail hour was too early (6.30) and the courtyard location lacked character. Good service throughout though some problems with other guests reserving loungers. Some excellent food.. Don't bother with the Heritage Village.

Overall the holiday was excellent - some hotels being better than others, with the Falaj Daris in Nizwa being the least satisfactory and the Al Hussn being as good as we hoped given the cost! We were also very satisfied by the level of service from W & O and would not hesitate in using the company again. Unfortunately our driver's English was not as good as many we came across, but he was very accommodating and an excellent driver.The one suggestion we would make is that when clients are trying to decide between self drive and having a driver in Oman, your sales consultants emphasise that unless you have experience driving a 4 wheel drive, you will miss out on many of the highlights that you get to see with an experienced driver. It is certainly worth the extra cost.

The Al Husn Hotel has an air of exclusivity. It boasts spacious rooms and bathrooms, with a level of service to match. The inner courtyard is a little utilitarian in looks but is more than compensated for by the remaining, beautifully Arabic, public areas. If you desire a quiet, luxurious holiday in one of the sunniest areas of the world, the Al Husn will not disappoint.

How far in advance should I book my holiday?

Many customers are under the illusion that booking late secures the best prices. This is often not the case and it is advisable to book early especially if travelling in peak seasons such as Christmas, Easter or school holidays. Many hotels and airlines actually offer special “Early Booking Offers” so you are able to secure the best price early on.

I don’t know what board basis to book. Can I eat out locally, should I consider All Inclusive?
