Hotel Overview

Insider's View

  • The resorts’ Turtle Care Project aims to protect and raise awareness of the endangered native turtles. A dedicated turtle ranger will keep you updated with news of any nesting activity and emerging hatchlings during the season
  • For a special evening, dine at Shahrazad, the only authentic Moroccan restaurant in Muscat

Firmly established as one of the top resorts in the region, Shangri-La’s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa is located on a secluded bay, 45 minutes drive from the airport and 20 minutes to Muscat Town. It is actually three hotels under one resort umbrella, each of which has its own style and personality.

Al Bandar is more luxurious in style and comfort than Al Waha. Located at the heart of the resort, each of the 197 rooms is sea facing, albeit across the swimming pool, with some directly facing the sea (supplement applies). Rooms are slightly larger than at Al Waha.

All guests can enjoy complimentary wi-fi in their room and throughout the Resort, complimentary bottled water in their room, by the pool and on the beach and a daily English or  Arabic newspaper.  Guests staying in Suites can also enjoy a daily fruit basket and flowers in room, complimentary return airport transfers by  luxury car, daily laundry service, mini-bar stocked daily and pre-dinner drinks and canapes served in room between 18.00 - 19.00 hrs daily.

With the exception of certain facilities at Al Husn, which are limited to exclusive use, all other amenities in the total Resort are available to all hotel guests. There's a superb selection of restaurants, with a good choice of cuisine, location and price. Each hotel has its own swimming pool, plus there is a lazy river option linking Al Waha and Al Bandar which has proved popular with adults and children alike. Other main facilities include CHI, the Spa and an attractive beachfront where a selection of watersports can be arranged.

Families are well catered for with a kid's and teens club, and from January to June children can get involved in the Turtle Nesting programme.

Adventure Zone, a new indoor play area for children, opened in May 2010. Housed within this facility are exciting drop slides, play equipment and themed party rooms.   Located in Al Mazaar Souk, adjacent to the Omani Heritage Village, it is open to both hotel guests and local residencts or visitors. You can register at Al Waha hotel Reception and be escorted by shuttle to the Zone.   It can accommodate up to 100 children offering fun, learing and inspiring activities.  Designed for children aged four to 17 years, budding fire-fighters can try their hand at sliding down a fireman's pole, aspiring gymnasts can practice their skills on the Over Under Hurdles, Tumble Tower and Swing Over Net.  There are also three exciting slides from Rainbow Slide with its wavy multi-lanes to Double Drop slide and Demon Drop Slide for a bigger kick!

Younger guests can join the Toddler Zone for under threes with a soft play area, ball pool, padded climbers etc.  Internet staions are available and there are daily Nintendo Wii Sports challenges.

Customer Hotel Reviews

R Christopher says:

The way we were met, transferred to our hotels and returned to airports was particularly efficient and pleasant in both India and Oman. All our guides were expert and flexible and our driver throughout the India sector was outstanding.

Richard Lee says:

I thought Oman was lovely, very laid back and much more family friendly than Dubai. The hotel was beautifully positioned with excellent staff and good amenities. The food was high quality with good variety. Western & Oriental were very helpful throughout the booking process (And during the holiday - resolving a transfer problem). I'd use you again and go to Oman again!

How To Book

How do I talk to a specialist in Oman holidays?

We are happy to give you a call back to discuss your holiday at a convenient time for you or we welcome you to come to our office in central London to discuss your holiday in detail.

Why use our specialist service?

Our destination experts provide a personalised service to tailormake your dream holiday. Within our experienced team we have visited most of the properties we feature and will be able to give you expertise and specialist knowledge from our first hand experience. You will be offered a direct telephone number, so you are able to speak to the same specialist from the time you pick up the phone until your documents are sent out.

Do I have to travel on certain dates and only do the itineraries suggested?

No, we tailormake all our holidays and subject to availability you will be able to travel on any date. The itineraries and holidays on our website are for inspiration and are suggestions only, you can change any aspect according to your personal requirements and available spend.

How far in advance should I book my holiday?

Many customers are under the illusion that booking late secures the best prices. This is often not the case and it is advisable to book early especially if travelling in peak seasons such as Christmas, Easter or school holidays. Many hotels and airlines actually offer special “Early Booking Offers” so you are able to secure the best price early on.

I don’t know what board basis to book. Can I eat out locally, should I consider All Inclusive?

It's always a difficult decision to make before you travel. Call one of our destination experts, who will be happy to advise you on local restaurants and prices you can expect to pay in resort.

What can I do when I get there?

There are many excursions, activities and highlights that are not to be missed out on, whilst in the country. Please contact our experts for advise on whether to prebook these before travel.

What financial protection do you offer?

When booking through Western and Oriental, if your flight is delayed or cancelled due to bad weather or you have a problem in resort it is our responsibility you are taken care of. We offer a 24 hour emergency number to assist with any issues you may have in resort and all of our flight inclusive holidays are financially protected through ATOL bonding for your protection.
