Hotel Overview

Insider's View

Spend at least days on the Ghats, just sit back and enjoy as the local life unfold, truly a memorable experience.

This majestic 250 year old 18th century Ahilya Fort lies on the banks of the sacred Narmada river in Madya Pradesh. The Fort is owned by well travelled Prince Richard Holkar. The views from the hotel of the river and ghts are exceptional. It is a perfect destination for someone who is looking for a lesser known India.

Maheshwar is one of our favourite places in India, as it is less intense and you can just sit in the comfort of your balcony or the terrace of the fort and watch the ghats.

The Fort has been discreetly converted into a simple yet elegant hotel with 13 rooms and suites. Some rooms have balconies overlooking the river, others with views of the garden. The Royal Suites and tents have amazing views and the architecture is outstanding. There is also a private tent with it's own heated plunge pool. Each room has its own distinct style and decoration.

The fort is an ideal base to explore the area around, a visit to Mandu, the deserted city, the famed temple of Omkareshwar.

The experiences at the Ghats is memorable, the best time of the day is morning it is interesting to just sit back and relax and see local life unfold itself, pilgrims, local villagers, you are transported back into time.
