Welcome to Seattle; a modern city made a household name by ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘Frasier’. The city’s many districts offer a wealth of amusements such as urban parks, hiking trails, brewery pubs and The Museum of Flight. Stay in trendy Belltown, Downtown and Pike Place Market and be sure to have lunch at the latter, and of course, make a trip to the top of Space Needle. An easy day trip from Seattle; venture 45 minutes outside of Seattle to Snoqualmie Falls enjoying views at the top and the bottom and perhaps a meal at the Salish Lodge & Spa. Another popular day trip from Seattle is to take the 30 minute seaplane from Seattle out to the San Juan Island, one of the largest of the San Juan Islands, for a unique escape. Alternatively take the ferry from Anacortes with your car and stay a night or two. From May to the end of September, see the Orca whales.
One of the most popular fly drives from Seattle is to drive the Olympic National Park Loop. Beginning in Seattle, journey to Port Angeles, stopping for lunch, and then drive onto the Hurricane Ridge Viewpoint. Travel onwards an hour to the Lake Crescent Lodge for a night’s stay and the next morning continue onto Forks, the beautiful setting of the Twilight movies. See the coast between LaPush and Kalaloch where there are driftwood, scenic beaches. Between Forks and Kalaloch, enter the Hoh Rain Forest for a hike, and spend the night at the Lake Quinault Lodge by the park or Kalaloch Lodge in Forks. Finally journey into the Olympic National Park where there are hikes, picnic and scenic vistas, staying at Lake Quinault Lodge. It’s then only a three hour drive back to Seattle after your three night fly drive extension.
Get a taste of wine tasting staying at the Willows Lodge in Woodinville, from here visit the Boeing plane factory in Everett. Travel of Seattle to Mount Vernon and onto Winthrop; enjoying the beautiful alpine scenery of the North Cascades National Park. Travelling from Winthrop to Chelan see the high desert scenery, similar to that of Utah and Nevada. Arriving at Yakima, enter the wine country which stretches east in the state to Walla Walla where the rolling hills are. Alternatively for a shorter fly drive extension, travel straight from Seattle to Yakima and Walla Walla.
