Nashville, Memphis & Tennessee Holidays

Holidays in Nashville, Memphis & Tennessee

Music rings out from every corner of Tennessee, the home of Elvis Presley and Dolly Parton. There’s more to Tennessee than music though; the state is rich in history, nature and culture. Not to be missed is a taste of Memphis barbeque, a drink of Moonshine at the Ole Smoky Distillery in Gatlinburg and a visit to the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville. Whilst Tennessee has been known as a dry state, much of the state is in fact wet, visit the Jack Daniels’ Whiskey distillery for a complimentary tour in Lynchburg!

The home of blues and where Rock N Roll was born, Memphis is bursting with sound. See the home of Elvis Presley at Graceland and walk in his shoes in the Sun Studio. Visit the Memphis Rock N Soul Museum and the National Civil Rights Museum, built on the site of Martin Luther King’s assassination. In the evenings, head to Beale Street for a fun night out Memphis style.

Travelling en route from Memphis to the capital Nashville, stop off for lunch at the Casey Jones Village. Known as the ‘Music City’, Nashville has a wealth of music history to discover. Visit the Grand Ole Opry for the weekly country music performance, the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and experience a honky tonk in Lower Broadway. Have your photograph taken at the replica of the Athens’ Parthenon and afterwards visit the Art Museum. Explore the Belle Meade Plantation, Belmont Mansion and Travellers Rest Plantation.

Before reaching the Smoky Mountains from Nashville, visit the ‘secret’ city of Oak Ridge and the Museum of Appalachia in Norris. In this eastern region, popular towns to visit include Chattanooga, Sevierville, Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg, each with their own attractions. A large draw of this area is Dollywood, the infamous Dolly Parton themed amusement park, fun for all the family! Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg are great bases for visiting this and also, the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, the most visited national park in the country. Here explore the high vistas from the Appalachian Trail. In Chattanooga, take the whole family to the Tennessee Aquarium, ride the world’s steepest passenger railway Incline and dine aboard the Chattanooga Choo Choo!
