I must admit, I initially travelled to the Dominican Republic unsure what to expect, having heard it once referred to as a ‘poor man’s Caribbean’. I wondered if this was true, but as soon as I stepped off the plane at Punta Cana I knew it wasn’t.
Immediately after arrival I was greeted by an immaculately dressed driver who took me to Eden Roc. Just 15 minutes later I was sipping a refreshing cocktail as I checked-in to the resort. Straight away I noticed the luxury; the reception area was spacious and stylish and I felt instantly relaxed. What a great start to my Dominican experience!
I was checked into a Pool Suite, an airy and air-conditioned space that was well-appointed with a gigantic bed, iPad-controlled lighting and a huge bathroom with a jacuzzi bath and indoor and outdoor showers. Each suite at Eden Roc also boasts a generously-sized private pool and terrace. The resort’s accommodation is designed with family-friendly flexibility in mind, and there are a variety of suites and villas to choose from. Each suite/villa is equipped with a golf cart, allowing guests easy access to every inch of the vast resort.
Eden Roc hosts a wealth of activities for every member of the family to enjoy. Koko Kid’s Club is set on a lagoon, and features a dedicated team of staff to take care of the younger guests at the resort. The club caters for children aged 4-12 and organises scavenger hunts, provides arts and crafts and even boasts its own mini-spa!
Golfers will love the Jack Nicklaus course, where each round is played with the stunning Dominican Republic coastline as a backdrop. The resort is also home to a world-class equestrian centre and a gorgeous eco-park, where your Destination Expert can arrange a bespoke programme of activities.
Guests who prefer to relax on holiday are also very well taken care of at Eden Roc. The Solaya Spa offers an extensive list of treatments and services focused on wellness, beauty and relaxation, while the hammam, sauna and whirlpool are not to be missed.
A highlight of the resort is the Beach Club and infinity pool, which was only a short golf cart journey away from my suite. The club has access to a private beach, concierge service and an excellent beach bar. It’s also home to seafood restaurant La Papala and the Blue Grill & Bar that offers an exciting infusion of Japanese and Peruvian cuisine.
Guests can also sample Mediterraneo Restaurant, which offers a delectable buffet breakfast spread and fine-dining Mediterranean options. La Cava is a ‘must’ for wine connoisseurs and our team can arrange a bespoke wine-tasting experience. I had a delicious meal in the wine cellar with recommended wine pairings which was incredible.
As the only Relais & Châteaux resort in the Dominican Republic, guests can expect an excellent level of service here. The staff are friendly and attentive, ensuring a truly memorable stay. I would definitely recommend Eden Roc to those looking for a luxury Caribbean getaway that all the family can enjoy.
